The craft beer industry is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in the United States. In California alone it has grown to become a $6.5 billion industries that include brewpubs and microbrews. Craft beer has been rising in popularity for the past two decade’s thanks in large to innovative breweries such as Dogfish Head from Delaware. The traditional brewing powerhouses have picked up on the new beer craze the past decade and half and have slowly been obtaining some of the larger craft brew companies. One of which is Leinenkugels from Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin, who were purchased by the Miller Brewing Company.
The pathway to working at a craft brewery is different than most jobs. Most people working in the craft beer brewing industry are entrepreneurs who have had experience working in other breweries and started their brewery. Experience is truly the key in this industry, and that experience can be difficult to get because breweries are not always hiring. That’s not to say it can’t be done. It is an incredibly rewarding industry, and if you have the right drive you can start your brewery from scratch.
